A
heart-warming story about a disabled boy whose mother’s love
changes his fate is at the core of “Amahl and the Night
Visitors,” a one-act opera being performed at NOVA Center for
the Performing Arts.
The opera was written by Gian Carlo
Menotti and it will be sung in English. It has a Christmas theme
and a beautiful score.
It will be performed Dec. 6-8 and
Dec 13-15 at NOVA, 2317 Montana Ave.
Real-life mother and
son Amy and Jacob Logan perform in the lead roles one weekend,
and Peter Hall and Angie Langeliers perform as mother and son
the next weekend.
The opera tells of precocious Amahl and
his loving, care-worn mother and the regal visitors who arrive
one night and change Amahl’s life.
With its beautiful
score and touching libretto, “Amahl” appeals to all ages and
musical backgrounds. It is an inspiring story of how faith,
charity, unselfish love and good deeds can work miracles.
Dodie Rife directs, Branden Martinez serves at music
director, and Darin Niebuhr is accompanist and performance
pianist.
